Odd vocabulary choices only hold when the prelate in question is wowing us with the sheer number of choices in his kit. Sign of superior intelligence, don'tcha know...
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to John and Mary Catholic in the pew, however, we're too stupid for things like "ineffable" and, apparently, even "manger." You might remember the dust up over using "feed box" in place of "manger" a few years back. It was thought that we're too urban or something to know what a manger is.
It's so nice of them to be so concerned that we understand; now, if they'd just give us something nice and straightforward—no duplicitous language, no back pedaling. Like nice clear answers in a deposition, for example.

ReplyDeleteMight just need some editing. Our bishops' Herald columns tend to sound a bit like transcripts from dictation.
Plethora-removal (short of surgery or executions):

2) In columns: preach in unity with the Pope, in season and out of season.
