    Amazing that Weakland and Dolan never discussed the problem of abusive priests! And Dolan wants us to believe that the diocese is safe now? It is no wonder that all Weakland's friends are still in power.

  2. Weakland says in the deposition that he "pleaded with the Vatican..." to defrock an abusive priest.

    Given Weakland's well-known disdain for Rome, his thumbing of nose at the Vatican and his reveling in being a maverick, I can't get my mind around "Ab. Weakland" and "pleading with the Vatican".

  3. GOR, Weakland used the wrong vehicle. "Defrocking" (laicization) is a very complex process.

    One is left to speculate on precisely why W. tried that route...
