If you've never been to Call to Action, it's worth going. It's the largest organized Catholic event I can think of in America where true intellectual dialogue is welcome.
Depends on how broadly you define "intellectual"; a lot of the people placing personal ads in The New York Review of Books thought they qualified.
But conservatives beware, if you give as an arguement: "The Pope says so," that will not be good enough.
Conservatives? The person who most literally said something like that is Mark Peters.
Sometimes it's hard to tell the Call to Actioners from the Curt Jester parodies...subtle they're not.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you about Catholics For Peace & Justice. They quote John Paul II way too much. I think it was their sad way of trying to steep their anti-war beliefs in a Catholic context when there are plenty of other suitable ways to denounce the war from a Catholic point of view. I'm sure it also makes it easier for them to get invited to churches and get pieces posted in church bulletins.
