I received the fund drive materials, which include a message from Archbishop Dolan and a video.
The video link is at the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph. Their site's Peace & Justice page has this quote, which I don't recall seeing in the fund-drive materials.

If it's an act of charity to people of the inner city for Archbishop Dolan to help with this fund drive, would it be an act of justice to relocate the Archdiocesan offices to their neighborhood?
It would be very good to have such a centrally-located, transit-accessable, archdiocesan offices. The current site a mile from the end of the bus route on a street lacking sidewalks is definitely less than prime (and worth millions for auto-addicted prospective condo owners......)
ReplyDeleteBut, would the Catholics who live out in the other counties, beyond the "edge of the earth", be willing to come there to do their Church business? If my amateur radio acquaintances from the outlying counties are any example, it would be highly likely to fail for that reason. Quite a few of them have been not at all quiet about their (inaccurate) belief that I must dodge bullets every day since I live in the city.
Building new archdiocesan offices outside the transit footprint has the worse problem that many of the Catholics in the city will be unable to go to it.
