One of our deacons presided. In his homily he talked about developing the faith in our young people. Perhaps some of today's boys are our future priests. And, he said, the girls perhaps future priestesses. Or, he went on, even popettes.
I could have imagined someone saying that if there were any justice Joan Chittister would be Popette by now, but it would be someone in a subscription ad for the New Oxford Review.
God is a very benevolent guy...
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, we were at a luncheon in the SSND/Elm Grove convent. I had momentarily left the table; my wife and several daughters were still present.
The "chaplain"-priest from the convent sat down and remarked that 'one of these young ladies could grow up to be a priest.'
My wife simply stared at him and attempted to laugh it off. The girls, reportedly, gawked.
Had I been present, of course, I would have slapped the silly twit hard enough for him to come to his senses---or not---makes no difference to me.
But God was protecting him that day.

ReplyDeleteFor real? I find it pretty cruel to confuse kids like this. Will you alert the bishop?
Before I would consider that, I'd have to communicate with the Deacon and a Christian Formation Director. Depending on what they have to say, I might then communicate with the Pastor. Depending on what he had to say, then I might communicate with the Archbishop.
ReplyDeleteAnd I could actually say "It's for the Children."
